Side Project: 24 Hour Playlist

Daylist: 24 Hours of Music

A playlist for each hour of the day

Each hour of the day has its own character, its own aura, its own energy.

Just as the texture of the air - the atmopshere - seems to shift and change around us, so does our mood. Sharp and crisp, brittle and fragile, hazy and thick, electric…

To provoke an effective processing of this daily rollercoaster, to properly enact the cathersis necessary for emotional clarity, we NEED music that matches a moment. The right music can do justice to our inner selves when the mechanics of the day to day world are not exactly built to honour our real human nature. We know what we need at any given moment innately. Someone else has felt that feeling too, and bottled it, ready for use at the appropriate time.

I tried to soundtrack the feeling I associate with each hour of the day. Like some kind of, I don’t know, musical chef, say, providing seasonal eating for your ears’ taste buds.

Of course, this is just one of the myriad possible daily journeys that people might take - and is based on the lived experience of a cosmic soul put through the bizarre matchstick-built infinity-engine that is modern city life, featuring mass transit commuting, office buildings, power structures, financial imperatives and expensive coffee. But also, moments of shared joy, escape, imagination and unexpected enlightenment. Getting through the work day, and then looking for togetherness, fun and flow state. Daylife, nightlife.

Let me know if the feelings examined in each playlist feel recognisable to you in relation to the hour they represent.
